casual sight-seeing day

Oh my GOD did we have a jam packed day, with over 12 hours of sight-seeing good-ness. I’ll give you the bullet points:

7am pickup (one of the reasons no drinking last night…)
Visit to Chamundi Hill Temple
-REALLY cool, and it’s only open December and January
-Walked around barefoot and tried not to step in monkey doo

First session of Yoga with A.R. (our VERY accommodating and knowledgeable host) who is a master of Yoga.
-We did Sun Salutation and Gretchen, Omni, Mary and I were invited up on the stage of the amphitheater to do the poses with him and the students because we did them so well. And it’s even been quite awhile since I’ve done yoga. Holla!

Breakfast at SDM
-Best yet… we had cornflakes with sugar and hot milk (which is surprisingly very tasty), and just delicious Indian food… I was also hungry so that may have played a factor.

Meeting with Secretary of Education
-Big important guy who graciously came from quite a drive away to speak with us. We talked about the education in India and the Temple Town

Changed out of our Yoga clothes at the hotel, for about 15 minutes then back on the road for sight-seeing.

Main Palace of Mysore
-OPPULENT
-No shoes again

Church
-One of the few in India
-Nice place, but not incredibly fascinating

Summer Palace of Tipu Sultan
-Lunch on the lawn, again, really good because I was hungry

Bird Sanctuary
-What’s better than birds? The crocodiles that were hanging out there too.
-Took a little boat ride around the lake to try and annoy the crocs.

Botanical Gardens at late evening/sunset
-Really beautiful
-Situated next to a damn

Back to the Palace in Mysore for the lighting
-The palace is only lit for one hour one day a week.
-has over 96,000 lights on it and is just beautiful at night

Pretty much crashed for the evening after that… Because we leave for KABINI tomorrow!!!
